Tamil Nadu Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar on Monday reiterated the state government's opposition to the Mekedatu Dam project. Speaking from the Tamil Nadu Secretariat, he declared, "Mekedatu dam construction will not be allowed at any cost."

The minister emphasized that the state is taking comprehensive legal measures, guided by Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, to prevent the dam's construction. Kumar noted that earlier consultations were held by CM Vijay with experts on the matter, coinciding with the Karnataka government's proposed groundbreaking ceremony for the dam across the Cauvery River.

According to a press release, these efforts are intended to uphold Tamil Nadu's rights and safeguard the welfare of its farmers. Despite petitions filed against the project, the Supreme Court has yet to grant permission for the dam, and Tamil Nadu continues to challenge the decisions legally to protect its interests.
