Manipur Police Crackdown: Extortionists, Drug Dealers, and Illegal Liquor Sellers Apprehended

In a sweeping series of operations, Manipur Police successfully apprehended six individuals connected to extortion and insurgency groups, alongside arrests for drug possession and illegal liquor sales. These efforts underscore the region's commitment to maintaining law and order, according to officials.
During an operation in Imphal East district, two members of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were detained for involvement in extortion activities. In a separate operation, police arrested Bramhacharimayum Sana Sharma, a cadre of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), from the Imphal West Police station complex.
Authorities seized 1.425 kg of suspected brown sugar from two individuals near CMC Hospital in Koirengei, and four suspected illegal liquor sellers were also detained in Imphal city during the crackdown.
Amid these operations, security forces escorted 289 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 and installed 114 security checkpoints statewide. Mukesh Singh, taking the helm as Manipur's new Director General of Police, emphasized professional conduct and coordination among agencies while urging the public to ignore unverified social media content and return illegal arms.
