In a significant political development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expanded his cabinet, integrating 12 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) as ministers. The expansion, seen as a strategic move in Sarma's third term under the Bharatiya Janata Party's governance, introduced several fresh faces to the state’s administration.

Among those taking the oath were BJP representatives Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Nilima Devi, and Sushanta Borgohain, along with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) stalwart Keshab Mahanta. The ceremony also witnessed former Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary's entry into the ministerial ranks. Additionally, MLAs Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Jayant Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Krishnendu Paul, Pijush Hazarika, and Ranoj Pegu were part of the cabinet induction.

The induction ceremony was officiated by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, with Chief Minister Sarma present. Sarma had previously announced the list of new ministers in a social media post, expressing his intent to strengthen the government’s performance through this expanded cabinet. This expansion follows the BJP-led NDA's sweeping victory in the state assembly elections, securing a formidable third consecutive term.
