An explosion at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, operated by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), claimed the lives of eight workers and left six others critically injured. Triggered by a leak of approximately 150 tonnes of molten steel from the Steel Melting Shop's ladle at extreme temperatures, the accident took place on June 8.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has intervened, treating the media report as a serious violation of human rights. It has issued an official notice to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary, demanding a comprehensive report on the incident, including the health status of the injured workers and compensation plans for the victims.

Expressing profound sorrow over the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended condolences to the bereaved families and announced that an ex-gratia amount would be allocated from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Assistance includes Rs 2 lakh for the relatives of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured, to aid in recovery and support.
