Traffic on National Highway 44 is being halted for three days to facilitate essential repairs before the annual Amarnath Yatra, which begins on July 3. Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic for the National Highway, Adil Hamid Ganai, confirmed Thursday the suspension from Thursday to Saturday.
The closure includes nighttime traffic restrictions between the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel and the Navyuga Tunnel in Banihal across three nights—June 12-13, June 14-15, and June 16-17. Vehicles heading towards Srinagar and Jammu will face restrictions post-5 pm and 9 pm, respectively, though routes to Batote, Doda, or Kishtwar remain unaffected.
Commuters are advised to travel during daylight hours to ease the highway's repair process. Queries and clarifications can be directed to Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban. The Amarnath Yatra concludes on August 28, finishing with Raksha Bandhan festivities.
