The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is embracing technology in its quest to improve road maintenance and civic services across Jammu. By introducing a cold-mix technology pothole patching machine and installing AI-enabled cameras on garbage trucks, the corporation is aiming to address pressing road and public service issues efficiently.
According to JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, complaints about potholes are frequent and sometimes lead to accidents. The newly introduced machine promises timely repairs, with individual pothole patches taking as little as five to ten minutes, thus aiming to minimise commuter inconvenience significantly.
The AI-powered cameras are a cornerstone of this initiative, mounted on ten garbage collection vehicles to detect potholes and a variety of other civic issues, including roadside debris and streetlight malfunctions. This data is relayed to JMC's control centre for prompt action. The road dust cleaning and drainage systems are also undergoing upgrades, reflecting a broader commitment to leveraging technology for better urban management.
