Yoga Week commenced on Monday at Namo Ghat in Varanasi, under a public welfare initiative, to herald the countdown to International Yoga Day on June 21. This initiative is also part of the celebrations marking twelve years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership at the helm of the central government.
Early morning activities saw participation from several ministers of Uttar Pradesh, who engaged in yoga demonstrations and awareness programs aimed at fostering healthy lifestyles. State Minister Daya Shankar Mishra praised the global recognition of the Yoga Day celebrations and credited Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for promoting yoga worldwide.
The event highlights the broader global practice of yoga, with 177 countries partaking in World Yoga Day. Ministers expressed gratitude towards the leadership for championing yoga on the international stage and emphasized propagating the discipline for global well-being, as supported by the United Nations' declaration of June 21 as International Yoga Day, following Modi's UN address in 2014.
