SC gives one-month extension for final publication of NRC

The Supreme Court has extended the final publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC) deadline by one month, that is, from July 31 to August 31, 2019, according to news agency ANI.

The government told the Parliament on Wednesday last week that there might be errors in the final list which could dilute the essence of the exercise. This statement by the came a day after the Supreme Court refused a plea by the Centre and the state of Assam for an urgent hearing for the postponement of the NRC, the deadline for which is 31 July.
