The Bill seeks to amend the UAPA formally called Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 that provides special procedures to deal with terrorist activities, among other things.
The 1967 Act empowers the central government to designate an organization as a terrorist if it fulfills the given criteria but under the amendment, the central government can also designate individuals as terrorists on the same grounds.
The bill was introduced in Lok Sabha by the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Amit Shah, on July 8, 2019.
