The Indian government has banned around 35 channels in Kashmir and has specifically asked cable operators to air only permitted channels. The banned channels include Zakir Naik's Peace TV and some Pakistani channels.

The government revoked controversial Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and lakhs of troops were stationed in the region to control the situation. Tight restrictions on the movement of people, goods, internet, and telecommunications were imposed during the last 2 weeks.

Government is now easing the restrictions and schools also reopened in Kashmir and teachers reported to work, but not many students turned up. Syed Sehrish Asgar, Director of Information and Public Relations of Jammu and Kashmir, has assured that the law and order situation is under control and is being monitored closely.
