US opens interim Venezuela Affairs Unit in Bogota

The United States has opened an interim diplomatic office on Venezuela affairs, Venezuela Affairs Unit (VAU) at the US embassy in the Colombian capital, Bogota. The US Department of State announced the opening of VAU on Wednesday under the leadership of chargé d'affaires James Story.

The VAU is an interim diplomatic office of the US government to Venezuela and has been established with the bipartisan support from the US Congress.

The press release said the VAU is continuing the US mission to the legitimate government of Venezuela and to the Venezuelan people.

The VAU will continue to work for the restoration the democracy and constitutional order in that country and the security and the well being of the Venezuelan people.

The VAU interacts with the government of interim president Juan Guaido, the democratically elected National Assembly, Venezuelan civil society, and the people of Venezuela.
