Many people have been killed as the fighter jets of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) attacked Saudi-backed forces with bombs near Yemen's interim capital Aden.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Yemen, the airstrikes have resulted in deaths of civilians and armed forces. It said it holds UAE fully responsible for this blatant targeting outside the law and international norms.

"We call on the international community especially the Security Council, to condemn this blatant targeting and assume responsibility for the maintenance of security, peace, unity and territorial integrity of Yemen in accordance with all relevant international resolutions," the Ministry stated.

Yesterday, the Yemen government forces supported by Saudi Arabia captured Aden airport from UAE-backed southern separatists and attacked the city's eastern suburbs.

Forces of the Saudi-backed government recaptured most of the neighboring towns they had lost to the United Arab Emirates-backed separatists earlier this month before moving on towards Aden, the temporary seat of the government.

The separatists and the internationally recognized government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi are nominally united under the Saudi-led coalition in their battle against the Houthis.

But the UAE has been at odds with the government because it comprises the Islah party, seen as close to the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist movement which the Gulf state has been fighting across the Middle East and North Africa. Islah denies being a member of the Brotherhood.

The Western-backed, Sunni Muslim coalition intervened in Yemen in March 2015 against the Houthi movement that ousted Hadi from power in the capital Sanaa in late 2014. His government relocated to Aden.
