Maha: Aurangabad COVID-19 tally rises by 201 to touch 48,638

The number of COVID-19 cases in Aurangabad reached 48,638 after 201 people were detected with the infection in a 24-hour period ending on Sunday night, an official said on Monday.
With three deaths during this period, the toll stands at 1,254, while 46,463 people have been discharged, including 64 on Sunday, leaving the district with 921 active cases, he added.
Of the new cases, 184 are from Aurangabad Municipal corporation limits, leading to authorities here announcing a slew of measures to contain a spike, including sealing if the tally at any colony crosses 20, the official said.
''Currently, some colonies have seven to eight cases.
However, if in any colony it crosses 20, we will seal the colony,'' AMC Heath Officer Dr Neeta Padalkar said.
A civic official said 139 persons were cumulatively fined Rs 69,500 for not wearing mask in public, while coaching classes and public halls were penalised Rs 91,950 for social distancing norm violations.
