Democratic US Senator says June 1 deadline makes 'clean' debt ceiling hike more urgent

Democratic U.S. Senator Mark Warner on Monday said the news that the federal government could be unable to pay all its bills by as soon as June 1 made it more urgent to pass a "clean" debt ceiling increase without conditions.

"Raising the debt ceiling isn’t about new spending - it’s about paying the bills we’ve already incurred," Warner said. "This new information simply increases the urgency of averting a catastrophic default by passing a clean bill."
