A ballot of nurses in England over whether to take fresh strike action failed to meet the legal minimum turnout threshold, their trade union said on Tuesday.

The Royal College of Nurses said more than 100,000 of its members voted in favour of strike action, around 84% of those who voted, but turnout was only 43%, below the 50% required in law for a strike to go ahead.
