The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has greenlit a significant policy shift, transferring the ownership of a 500-bed hospital, currently affiliated with the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida, from the local Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) to the institute itself.

The decision, made during a cabinet meeting in Lucknow, underscores the state’s commitment to improving medical education and services. Constructed on 15 acres by GNIDA in 2011, the hospital’s OPD services have been operational since 2013, and it became associated with GIMS in 2016 to bolster medical education.

Despite this association, GNIDA retained ownership, leading to difficulties in obtaining licenses as per National Medical Commission (NMC) and Medical Council of India (MCI) standards. This ownership transfer aims to facilitate smoother operations, comprehensive medical services, and the expansion of medical courses and research activities, aligning with public interest objectives.
