Norway Pledges $92.69 Million to Enhance Ukraine's Air Defenses Amid Ongoing Conflict
Norway commits 1 billion crowns ($92.69 million) to bolster Ukraine's air defenses, with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere announcing the aid at a NATO summit. The support includes six F-16 fighter jets and an IRIS-T air defense battery in partnership with Germany. This decision follows devastating airstrikes in Kyiv.
Norway will provide 1 billion crowns ($92.69 million) to enhance Ukraine's air defenses, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere announced on Thursday during a NATO summit. This contribution underscores the alliance's commitment to supporting Kyiv in its ongoing struggle against Russian forces.
The announcement follows Norway's pledge to deliver six F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, as emphasized by Stoere. 'The Ukrainians need more air defenses to safeguard their population from Russian bombs and missiles,' Stoere stated. He highlighted the critical importance of protecting Ukrainians, particularly given the recent brutal attacks.
Earlier this week, a missile struck Kyiv's main children's hospital, with widespread airstrikes affecting other Ukrainian cities, resulting in multiple casualties. Ukraine has attributed the attack to Russia, which the Kremlin has denied. In response, Norway, along with Germany, will donate an IRIS-T air defense battery to Ukraine this autumn, supporting Germany's Immediate Action for Air Defense initiative. Norway has allocated a total of 4 billion crowns for Ukraine's air defense measures through 2024.
