Advancing Assistive Technology: Medical Workshop Highlights Innovations

A workshop organised by Safdarjung Hospital and ICMR attracted over 50 delegates to discuss advancements in assistive technology. Leaders in the field emphasized the role of technology in enhancing independence for individuals with disabilities and highlighted the commitment to integrating cutting-edge solutions into patient care.

Over 50 delegates took part in a continuing medical education-cum-workshop hosted by Safdarjung Hospital's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The workshop, inaugurated by Medical Superintendent Dr Vandana Talwar, focused on the critical role of assistive technology in improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Dr Talwar emphasized that such technology can be transformative, turning dependence into independence and enabling greater social inclusion.

Dr Ravinder Singh, a senior scientist at ICMR, underlined the tremendous potential of recent advancements in assistive technology to enhance accessibility. He noted that ICMR is committed to research that translates these innovations into practical solutions for patients. Meanwhile, Dr Ajay Gupta, head of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, highlighted Safdarjung Hospital's leadership in integrating these technologies into patient care protocols.

According to Dr Suman Badhal, the enthusiasm and engagement from delegates, including experts from ICMR, AIIMS, NIHFW, ALIMCO, and PMR, demonstrated the growing recognition of assistive technology's impact in healthcare. The workshop served as a platform for healthcare professionals to discuss the latest developments and explore ways to improve accessibility for patients with a variety of disabilities.
