The Economic Survey of India has sounded the alarm on the nation's growing obesity crisis, linking it to unhealthy diets and increased consumption of highly processed foods laden with sugars and fat.
Tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the survey stressed the need for preventive measures to promote healthier lifestyles among citizens, especially in urban areas.
According to the survey, 54% of the disease burden in India is due to unhealthy diets. The situation is particularly dire among adults and calls for urgent action to transition towards a balanced and diverse diet.
