Probe Intensifies into Irregular Nursing Home Registrations in Delhi

The Delhi government has instructed the DGHS to provide details of seven officials amidst a vigilance probe into alleged illegal registrations of private nursing homes. The probe follows a tragic neonatal hospital fire. Over 25% of Delhi's 1,190 nursing homes operate without valid registration.

The Delhi government has ordered the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to supply information on seven officials as part of an ongoing vigilance inquiry into the alleged unlawful registration of private nursing homes. The health department communicated to the Directorate General of Health Services, revealing that the Directorate of Vigilance has requested comprehensive biodata of seven officials, including specific recommendations regarding their roles and responsibilities.

Following the tragic death of six newborns in a neonatal hospital fire in May, Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena mandated a thorough probe by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) into the registration and regulatory practices of private nursing homes in Delhi.

According to Saxena, out of 1,190 nursing homes in the city, over a quarter are operational without proper registration. In May, Saxena suspended Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) R N Das due to his suspected involvement in the irregular and illegal registration of private nursing homes, including the facility in Vivek Vihar where the newborns perished in the fire.
