In a shocking revelation, the Delhi Police filed a voluminous 796-page charge sheet concerning the catastrophic fire at a neonatal hospital in east Delhi's Vivek Vihar. Lapses in fire safety and negligence by hospital staff have been spotlighted, pointing to a larger, systemic issue.
The tragic fire erupted on May 25 at the Baby Care New Born Hospital, causing seven infant casualties. Initial findings indicate that the blaze, which ignited around 11:30 pm, quickly spread to neighboring buildings, further exacerbated by the explosion of improperly stored oxygen cylinders.
Two individuals, including the hospital owner Naveen Khichi and Dr. Akash, who were on duty at the time, have been apprehended. The investigation underscores the hospital’s failure to adhere to safety norms, operating with unauthorized bed capacity and inadequate fire precautions, sealing a trail of negligence.
