In Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district, police have initiated legal proceedings against the medical staff of a government hospital following a tragic stillbirth incident, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the police, the case was registered based on a local court's orders on Monday.

Dinesh Yadav, a resident of Majhgawa village, arrived at the Digh Health Centre with his pregnant wife Archana Yadav in the early hours of April 20. Yadav claimed that no staff were present to assist them, and despite numerous calls, medical personnel only arrived hours later, resulting in the delivery of a stillborn baby, reported Chief Medical Officer Santosh Kumar Chak.

Yadav alleged that the medical superintendent had harassed him over the phone and both the nurse and the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) had threatened him, leading to the baby's death in the womb. Yadav subsequently filed a petition to prompt legal action, questioning the authenticity of the hospital's investigation report.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Sabiha Khatoon mandated the registration of a case against Dr. Phool Chand Bind, nurse Radha Gupta, and ANM Sangeeta Bhartiya under serious charges, including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide of an unborn child, said Manoj Kumar, in-charge of the Koirona Police Station. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
