Union Health Minister JP Nadda recently unveiled ongoing efforts to elevate All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot, Gujarat, to one of the nation's premier medical institutions. Key initiatives include recruiting top faculty and doctors.
Nadda also inaugurated a Virus Research and Diagnostic (VRD) Lab at AIIMS Rajkot. This facility aims to reduce Gujarat's reliance on the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.
Nadda emphasized the institute's rapid growth despite COVID-19 challenges, noting increased patient visits and improved trauma and OPD services. The anticipated upgrade of the VRD Lab to Biological Safety Level 3 will further bolster its capabilities.
