Junior Doctors Call Off Strike After Supreme Court Appeal

Junior doctors at the state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi resumed their duties on Friday, following the suspension of their 'pen down' agitation. The strike was spurred by outrage over the alleged rape and murder of a female medical colleague in Kolkata.

The Supreme Court had intervened on Thursday, urging striking doctors nationwide to return to work while assuring that no punitive actions would be taken against them. This plea, along with a meeting with the state's health minister, prompted the doctors to call off their three-week-long strike.

Despite resuming duties, the doctors will continue their protest by wearing black ribbons until justice is served for the murdered medic, whose body was discovered on August 9, prompting national outrage and protests.
