A Florida family is claiming that a decomposing body found in a nursing home closet belongs to their 71-year-old relative, who went missing nearly two weeks ago.

The family of Elin Etienne believes the body found at the North Dade Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is his. Etienne, who was suffering from a brain aneurysm, had been a patient there before he disappeared on August 23. Despite a missing person alert issued by North Miami Police a day after his disappearance, the facility allegedly did not notify the family about the discovery.

Ruth Keisha Etienne, Elin’s granddaughter, stated that they learned about the body from an anonymous caller and were refused access to see it. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's Office has yet to identify the body, and police are actively investigating the case. State nursing home regulators have not responded to requests for comments.
