Maharashtra Faces Rise in Gullain-Barre Syndrome Cases
Maharashtra has reported 207 suspected and confirmed Gullain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases. Two new confirmed cases were added, and 20 patients require ventilator support. A suspected new fatality was reported in Kolhapur. GBS is a rare condition where the immune system attacks peripheral nerves, causing muscle weakness and sensory loss.

Maharashtra's health officials report a significant increase in Gullain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases, with the tally now standing at 207 after the detection of two new instances. The number of confirmed cases has reached 180, with 20 patients requiring ventilator support.
Despite the state health department's official death toll holding steady at eight, a potential new fatality linked to GBS complications emerged from Kolhapur. Officials revealed the victim was a 60-year-old woman from Changid tehsil, who died on February 13 after experiencing paralysis and hospitalization.
GBS is a rare medical condition, wherein the immune system mistakenly attacks peripheral nerves, leading to symptoms such as muscle weakness, loss of sensation in limbs, and difficulty in swallowing or breathing.
