A newborn baby girl, just 23 days old, has been abandoned by her parents in a private hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Kerala. The state government has intervened to ensure her protection.
State Minister for Health, Women, and Child Development, Veena George, has tasked the Women's and Child Development Department with taking immediate action. An official release announced that a team would visit the hospital to make further arrangements for the child's care.
Officials stated that if the child's parents, who hail from Jharkhand, return, the baby will be handed over to them. If not, the Child Welfare Committee will initiate legal procedures to ensure her welfare. The Ernakulam General Hospital Superintendent has been instructed to provide proper medical treatment for the baby, who was moved to the NICU due to her low birth weight. The parents, previously working at a fish farm, have reportedly gone missing and remain unreachable.
