A shocking instance of negligence was reported in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, where rats were found to have gnawed on a corpse in the district hospital's mortuary due to faulty freezers, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Family members of the deceased, Lakhan Kumar, a 36-year-old local guesthouse manager, raised an alarm when they discovered severe wounds on his body, attributing the damage to rats entering through a hole in the hospital's deep freezer.
Assistant Superintendent Ranveer Kumar admitted the freezer gates are in disrepair, blaming an agency's negligence and promising actions to rectify the maintenance issues.
