In response to the harsh cold wave affecting Delhi, AIIMS has committed to building shelters for patients' families. The Delhi High Court, after noting poor conditions, learned of plans for 80 night shelters and a 3,000-bedded rest facility to be constructed by AIIMS in coordination with stakeholders, including the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).
During a hearing led by Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya, it was highlighted that the initiative reflects AIIMS's dedication to the well-being of patients' families. An interim update was given on temporary accommodations set up by authorities near AIIMS and other hospitals, with tents and amenities provided to combat the cold.
The court has urged continued vigilance and cooperation from relevant bodies, including soliciting donations from the Delhi High Court Bar Association to support the shelter's development. The case remains under review, with further meetings scheduled to ensure initiatives are promptly executed.
