The Health Department of Gautam Buddh Nagar has recently sealed five ultrasound centers due to alleged violations of medical norms, particularly related to the illegal determination of a fetus's sex. This decisive action follows the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act enacted in 1994.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Chandan Soni, reported that information received in October indicated unlawful activities at Bharat Scanning Centre in Sector-37. Subsequent surprise inspections confirmed these allegations, leading to the center’s closure and legal action through the filing of an FIR at Sector-39 police station.

On the directive of the District Magistrate, a district-wide inspection was later conducted. It revealed violations at multiple centers, including the absence of qualified doctors and essential surveillance equipment. Consequently, these centers were sealed, and investigations continue to ensure compliance with the PCPNDT Act.
