Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Kailas Shinde on Sunday inspected Maharashtra's largest 50-bed dialysis centre in Vashi, and emphasised the civic body's commitment to making critical healthcare affordable for citizens. The specialised centre, located in the Vivekananda Cultural Centre building, is the largest facility of its kind in Maharashtra, an official release stated. ''Dialysis becomes unaffordable for common patients when it costs between Rs 3,000 and Rs 3,500 per session, especially when required two to three times a week. Keeping this in mind, NMMC has established this facility to provide relief,'' the release quoted Shinde as saying. The civic chief directed officials to maximise outreach so that needy citizens can benefit from the facility, which has already served over 1,000 patients since its inception in January. Shinde informed that the NMMC has scaled its total dialysis capacity to 85 beds at different hospitals in the city. He also announced that Vashi Public Hospital will soon be equipped with advanced facilities, including an MRI centre, a Cath Lab, a modular mortuary, and a milk bank.
