Cruise Ship Hantavirus Precaution: British Nationals Under Isolation in UK

All remaining British nationals from a hantavirus-hit cruise ship are in 45-day isolation in England. Monitored by the UKHSA, no passengers are symptomatic. Strict infection controls were maintained during their journey. Public health risk is low, with support ensured for those isolating.

All remaining British nationals who were aboard a cruise ship affected by the hantavirus are now undergoing a compulsory 45-day isolation at a hospital in north-west England, informed health authorities on Monday.

This group, comprising 20 British nationals along with a German and a Japanese passenger, was evacuated from MV Hondius, with the Japanese national repatriated following Japan’s government request. UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is supervising their quarantine at Arrowe Park Hospital, Merseyside, where they will undergo clinical evaluations and testing within 72 hours.

UK Public Health Minister Sharon Hodgson assured the public that, despite no current symptoms among passengers, stringent monitoring will persist to ensure safety. The UKHSA mentioned thorough infection control practices were enforced on the passengers’ journey. With public health risk minimal, the government emphasizes continued support for the isolating individuals.
