To boost healthcare surveillance, TN CM Vijay flags off 40 new vehicles worth Rs 2.9 cr

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has flagged off 40 new vehicles to monitor hospitals and enforce compliance with health regulations across the state.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday flagged off 40 new vehicles procured at a cost of Rs 2.90 crore for the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services.

At a function held at the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister handed over the vehicle keys to the drivers and officially commenced their operations.

The newly inducted fleet is designated to strictly monitor government and private hospitals across districts to ensure rigid compliance with the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, and the Tamil Nadu Clinical Establishments (Regulation) Act, 1997, according to a press release.

The vehicles will also be deployed to inspect ultrasound scan centres, fast-track investigations against quacks, supervise patient care standards, and manage emergency medical relief operations during disasters and pandemics, the press release added.

CM Vijay also held a series of high-level meetings at the Secretariat on Wednesday with top industry bodies, farmers' representatives, and transitioning bureaucrats to discuss industrial growth, agrarian grievances, and administrative matters.

Among those who met the CM include a delegation from the Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA) and the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL). The discussions focused on regional textile growth, power tariff structures, and the implementation roadmap for the Tamil Nadu Integrated Textile Policy 2026, a press release stated.

Representatives from the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) Southern Region, led by Chairman Aditya Ganesh, along with the Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) delegation led by President S Vasudevan, also met the Chief Minister.

The discussions centered on future expansion blueprints, upgrading state auto-component manufacturing infrastructure, and strategic steps needed to fortify micro, small, and medium enterprises, according to a press statement.

A delegation from the Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers' Association, led by General Secretary P R Pandian, submitted a formal petition to the Chief Minister outlining key grievances and policy demands concerning Cauvery basin farmers.

In a separate administrative meeting, Tamil Nadu State Election Commissioner P Jothi Nirmalasamy met with Chief Minister Vijay at the Secretariat ahead of her upcoming retirement from service.
