In eastern Democratic Republic of Congo's South Kivu province, an Ebola burial team was attacked by residents, raising concerns about further virus transmission, according to the health ministry.

The attack occurred on Monday in Katana, an area under AFC/M23 rebel control, causing the team to abandon a coffin. Community members then handled the body, a practice posing high infection risks, as noted in a Wednesday situation report.

This incident is reflective of the mistrust and resistance health officials face as they combat the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. Despite challenges, Congo's latest outbreak has seen some progress, with certain patients recovering and negative tests following 21-day monitoring periods.
