An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore dismissed Imran Khan's allegations of 'political victimisation' from cases associated with the May 9, 2023 riots, The News reported. In a four-page verdict, ATC Judge Khalid Arshad stated there were 'reasonable grounds' connecting Khan to the riots.

The court denied petitions seeking extensions for interim bails previously granted to the imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader in three cases related to the violent protests on May 9. These riots erupted across the country last year following Khan's arrest on corruption charges.

Civil and military authorities charged Khan's supporters under the Army Act for attacking various state buildings, including military installations. The verdict cited two witnesses who testified that a meeting took place at Khan's Zaman Park residence in Lahore on May 7, 2023. The meeting, attended by 15 senior PTI leaders, was convened to discuss potential actions in case of Khan's arrest on May 9.

According to the verdict, Khan instructed PTI leaders to assemble party workers and to attack military installations, government properties, and police officials to apply pressure on the government and armed institutions for his release. The recovery of alleged articles used in recording instigating video messages was also noted by the court.

The ATC dismissed the claims of 'political victimisation,' stating the allegations were not convincing enough to a 'prudent mind.'
