IDF Admits Failure in Protecting Kibbutz Be'eri During Hamas Attack

In Tel Aviv, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have acknowledged significant shortcomings in their efforts to defend Kibbutz Be'eri during the brutal Hamas attack on October 7. The IDF's investigative team reported that the mission to protect the kibbutz had failed, leading to severe civilian casualties and extensive property damage.

The IDF commended the bravery of Kibbutz Be'eri residents and the on-site standby unit, emphasizing their role in stabilizing the defense line during the attack's initial hours. Their efforts, the IDF noted, curtailed the further advance of the assailants across the kibbutz.

Tragically, the attack resulted in the deaths of 101 civilians and the abduction of 30 individuals, with 11 still held in Gaza. Additionally, 31 security personnel, including 23 IDF soldiers and 8 policemen, lost their lives, while numerous others were injured. The IDF's report highlighted the horrifying actions of approximately 340 terrorists, including 100 from Hamas's Nakhba unit, who carried out mass killings, kidnappings, and looting. The kibbutz's restoration process is projected to be lengthy.
