External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday for a two-day official visit. He expressed gratitude to Mauritius Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin for the warm welcome, looking forward to deepening the special relationship between India and Mauritius.

Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin highlighted the enduring partnership, expressing delight over Jaishankar's visit. He noted the promise of further strengthening ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation between the two nations.

Jaishankar is scheduled to meet Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and several senior ministers during his visit, just a month after Jugnauth attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony in India. This trip marks one of Jaishankar's first engagements following his re-appointment in the Modi government.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the visit aims to review various aspects of the bilateral relationship, comprising historical, demographic, and cultural ties. Notably, Indian-origin people make up nearly 70% of Mauritius' population, underscoring the special bond between the countries.
