An eyewitness described the chaotic scene, saying, "The mosque was packed with hundreds of worshippers; the sound of bullets was incessant for over an hour." The eyewitness recounted how around 500-600 people initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks and were urged to run.

The Royal Oman Police conveyed condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families. High-profile attacks are rare in Oman, a nation known for its low crime rate and role as a regional mediator. The attack coincides with Ashura, a significant day for Shia Muslims.
