Historic Visit: UAE and Indonesia Strengthen Ties

Abu Dhabi, UAE – July 17 (ANI/WAM): The state visit of Indonesian President Joko Widodo to the UAE signifies an important milestone in the bilateral relationship between the two nations. This visit underscores nearly five decades of cooperation, set to deepen in sectors like nuclear energy, investment, and finance.

Historically, the bond between the countries was cemented during the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's visit to Indonesia in May 1990. In a recent UAE-Indonesia Joint Committee meeting, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the extensive collaborations in areas such as renewable energy, tourism, and agriculture over the past 47 years.

The economic cooperation between UAE and Indonesia has flourished, with bilateral trade exceeding AED100 billion in the past decade. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2022 has further propelled trade, expected to surpass US$10 billion in non-oil exchange within five years. The establishment of the Mohamed bin Zayed-Joko Widodo International Mangrove Research Centre showcases a mutual commitment to environmental sustainability.
