Gunman Kills Six in Croatian Elderly Home

Tragedy struck the small Croatian town of Daruvar as a gunman opened fire in a private home for the elderly, resulting in six fatalities. The incident, first reported by CNN citing Croatian public broadcaster HRT, left an additional six people injured.

Croatian police chief Nikola Milina confirmed that five of the deceased were residents, while one was an employee of the home. The gunman, identified as a former military police member with a history of encounters with law enforcement, used an unregistered firearm. Preliminary statements indicate that it's too early to determine the shooting's motive.

The gunman initially fled the scene but was later apprehended near a local cafe. According to HRT, five victims died instantly, and several wounded were receiving medical care hours after the shooting. Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic expressed his condolences and called for a thorough investigation. Senior government officials are en route to Daruvar to oversee the situation.
