Netanyahu's Controversial Address to Congress Amid Protests

Amid widespread protests, Israeli PM Netanyahu addressed Congress urging bipartisan support amidst ongoing conflict with Hamas. Demonstrators clashed with police, and Netanyahu's remarks included criticism of Iran and praise for US leaders. Over 30 Congress members boycotted the address, while Elon Musk attended as a special guest.

As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began addressing a joint meeting of Congress on Wednesday, more than 5,000 protesters gathered near Capitol Hill. Waving Palestinian flags, they chanted for the United States to cease arming Israel.

Netanyahu called for bipartisan support to Israel in its conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Demonstrators attempted to barricade potential routes to the Capitol, with some distributing effigies of Netanyahu in handcuffs, others burning American flags. Netanyahu accused Iran of funding anti-Israel protests in America, referring to protesters as 'Iran's useful idiots.'

'Our enemies are your enemies. Our fight is your fight, and our victory will be your victory,' Netanyahu emphasized the strategic importance of Israel in countering Iran. While he avoided specifics on a ceasefire or negotiations with Hamas, he stated the war would end if Hamas disarmed and returned hostages. He also likened the recent Hamas attack to Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

Netanyahu praised US President Joe Biden for his efforts to free hostages held by Hamas and highlighted their 40-year friendship. He also commended former President Donald Trump and expressed relief over Trump's safety following a shooting incident in Pennsylvania.

More than 30 Congress members boycotted Netanyahu's address in protest of his approach to the conflict. Elon Musk attended as a special guest. Netanyahu and Biden are scheduled to meet at the White House on Thursday.
