In a significant political development, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Aslam Ghori has thrown his weight behind Jamaat-e-Islami's ongoing protest against the rising inflation in Islamabad, ARY News reports. Ghori highlighted the severe consequences citizens face due to the surging inflation and economic crisis.
Speaking on the matter, Ghori emphasized the devastating impact of inflation, noting, "People are committing suicide because of inflation." He strongly condemned government raids on the homes of political workers, denouncing such actions as a 'travesty of democracy', according to ARY News.
Ghori argued that setting up barricades to block protesters would only escalate tensions. He called on the government to reduce electricity and gas rates to alleviate the financial burden on the public and labeled protesting against public issues as a fundamental constitutional and democratic right. "The matter should not be resolved through force," he asserted.
Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman declared the party's unwavering commitment to securing financial relief for the masses. He addressed sit-in participants in the I-8 area of Islamabad, stating that they would not leave without achieving their goals, ARY News reported.
Rehman added that the large turnout of protesters reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the current system. He criticized the imposed Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and the burden of high electricity bills, demanding their reduction. He also called for lower taxes and the release of arrested workers. Describing the sit-in as just the beginning, Rehman affirmed that their aim is to bring justice to Pakistan's 250 million people, as reported by ARY News.
