A Tuareg separatist coalition has announced a significant victory over Mali's army and its Russian allies following three days of intense combat near the Algerian border, according to Al Jazeera. The military government, led by Colonel Assimi Goita since 2020, has relied on Russia's Wagner Group for security after ousting French forces in 2022.

The Tuareg, an ethnic group fighting for independence since 2012, declared their forces had 'decisively obliterated' enemy columns. Mohamed Elmaouloud Ramadane, a spokesman for the Permanent Strategic Framework for Peace, Security and Development (CSP-PSD) alliance, stated that substantial equipment was seized, with 7 rebels killed and 12 wounded in Tinzaouatene.

Heavy fighting erupted on Thursday after the Malian army claimed to have recaptured several districts. Tinzaouatene has seen repeated clashes between separatists and the military. The CSP-PSD reported damaging a helicopter that crashed in Kidal, another rebel stronghold. The Malian army reported two soldiers killed, 10 wounded, and a helicopter crash with no fatalities.
