Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh Killed in Tehran Attack

Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and his bodyguard were killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran. The incident occurred after he met Iran's Supreme Leader. The Israeli Defense Forces also reported the death of his three sons in a previous airstrike.

Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed Wednesday, according to Press TV. The IRGC statement to Meher News Agency detailed that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were the victims of this targeted strike.

“With condolences to the heroic nation of Palestine and the Islamic nation and the combatants of the Resistance Front and the noble nation of Iran, this morning (Wednesday) the residence of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance of Hamas, was hit in Tehran, and following this incident, he and one of his bodyguards were martyred,” the statement read. This attack took place a day after Haniyeh met Iran's Supreme Leader, Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, who shared photos of their meeting on the social media platform X.

In a prior report, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that three of Haniyeh's sons, Amir, Mohammad, and Hazem, were killed in an airstrike by the Israeli Air Force in April. The IDF further noted the elimination of Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah's Most Senior Military Commander. Shukr was responsible for orchestrating several attacks against Israeli targets and was considered Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah's close ally.
