Amid ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, Iran's Ambassador to India, Iraj Elahi, expressed concerns over the escalating situation, stressing the traditional ties between Tehran and Dhaka. The ambassador emphasized the potential regional impact of Bangladesh's instability.

In an interview with ANI, Elahi remarked, 'Bangladesh is an important country in the region. It is a big Muslim country. Iran has traditional relations with Bangladesh. What happened in Bangladesh has raised our concerns about people's lives, this country's stability, and the region's stability.' Elahi voiced optimism for a swift return to normalcy.

The ambassador noted that more than 2,000 people had been jailed amid the protests, initially against a government job quota, which evolved into calls for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation. On Monday, General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced plans to form an interim government and pledged to investigate deaths during the protests.

The military declared that the curfew would be lifted Tuesday at dawn, allowing businesses and schools to reopen. Public celebrations erupted following reports of Hasina's departure from Bangladesh. Dhaka Tribune reported joyous processions in Chittagong and other cities.

The country is facing a fluid political landscape, with student-driven protests against the quota system morphing into broader anti-government demonstrations. Hasina arrived in India after resigning, with future plans unclear. Meanwhile, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement proposed an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. President Mohammed Shahabuddin approved the interim government late Monday. (ANI)
