US Vice President Kamala Harris confronted pro-Palestine protesters who disrupted her speech at a rally in Detroit on Wednesday. Demonstrators loudly chanted, 'Kamala, Kamala you can't hide, we won't vote for genocide,' according to The Hill.

The crowd at the Detroit airplane hangar responded by drowning out the protesters with chants of 'Kamala,' as reported by American media. 'I'm here because we believe in democracy. Everyone's voice matters, but I am speaking now. I am speaking now,' Harris asserted. As the protesters persisted, she remarked, 'You know what, if you want Donald Trump to win then say that. Otherwise, I'm speaking.'

Harris, following a recent meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reiterated her commitment to Israel's right to self-defense and a two-state solution. 'I've said it many times but it bears repeating, Israel has a right to defend itself, but how it does so matters,' she stated after the meeting.

According to The Hill's analysis, Michigan, particularly the Detroit suburbs, boasts a significant Arab American population. This demographic has Democrats concerned about potential voting impacts due to the Biden administration's stance on Gaza.

In a show of campaign strength, Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz toured Wisconsin and Michigan on Wednesday. At the Detroit rally, United Auto Workers (UAW) head Shawn Fain criticized former President Donald Trump and rallied support for Harris before a sizable crowd.

Union workers are pivotal in Michigan, a key state in the US auto industry. The state shifted from longstanding Democratic support to elect Trump in 2016, only to return to Biden in 2020. The upcoming elections see Michigan as a crucial battleground.
