In a landmark event, Dubai Police and Utrecht authorities have launched the first Smart Police Station (SPS) in the Netherlands, named 'SPS Utrecht.' The station was inaugurated by Sharon Dijksma, Mayor of Utrecht, and Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police. The station's launch follows the successful implementation of similar initiatives in the UAE, offering around-the-clock security services without human intervention.
The inauguration saw the attendance of key officials, including Rob van Bree, Chief of Investigations and Special Operations of the Dutch National Police, and Jolanda Aalbers, Operations Director for the Eastern Netherlands. 'SPS Utrecht' embodies the strategic partnership and collaborative efforts between the UAE and the Netherlands, aligning with the vision of leaders from both nations to bolster security and stability.
This pioneering initiative also aligns with directives from H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. Known for its autonomous operation, 'SPS Utrecht' follows the first international adoption of the concept in Serbia. Aimed at enhancing police cooperation and security integration, the station is strategically located in Utrecht Central Station, serving a diverse population of residents, travelers, and commuters.
Mayor Sharon Dijksma applauded the effort, saying, 'During my visit to Dubai last year, I witnessed how innovation facilitates more officers on the beat. This new smart station will make crime reporting easier. I am proud of our collaborative effort with the police to bring this to Utrecht.' Similarly, Jolanda Aalbers noted the fruitful cooperation in exchanging expertise, highlighting the significance of the station in serving both societies.
Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri emphasized that 'SPS Utrecht' aligns with the UAE's strategic goals to fortify international relationships with various security entities. He noted that the station marks the second global achievement of Dubai Police's innovative concept, following the success in Serbia. 'This underscores the unique and pioneering accomplishments of the UAE and the Ministry of Interior, led by Dubai Police, reflecting our visionary leadership,' he stated.
On the operational front, 'SPS Utrecht' will offer multiple police services, including video call communication with officers, inquiries, and criminal reporting, among others. The station's introduction stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year, facilitated by Emirati expertise. Colonel Tareq Hilal, along with other prominent figures such as Erwin Janssen, CEO of SD Worx, and Van Winsen Marcel, Airport Manager at Etihad, attended the inauguration, heralding a new chapter in international police cooperation and security advancements.
