Massive Undercover Operation at Ashdod Port Busts Smuggling Ring

Israeli police announced the culmination of a major undercover operation, resulting in the arrest of dozens at Ashdod Port. The group, involved in smuggling, bribery, and money laundering, had been under investigation since 2020. The agent, 'Jack Sparrow', played a key role in infiltrating and dismantling the network.

One of the most comprehensive undercover investigations in Israel's history has led to the arrest of dozens of individuals implicated in smuggling, bribery, and money laundering at Ashdod Port, Israeli Police confirmed on Tuesday.

The operation, which began in 2020, saw an undercover agent codenamed 'Jack Sparrow' embedded into the network of customs officials and importers. For over four and a half years, 'Jack Sparrow' posed as a customs inspector, facilitating illegal smuggling activities in exchange for bribes ranging from tens to hundreds of thousands of shekels.

Authorities seized counterfeit luxury goods, vehicle parts, tobacco products, and even weapons. The suspects, including a Ministry of Transportation employee, face charges of money laundering, bribery, and smuggling, with the network's activities allegedly resulting in significant tax evasion.
