PM Modi Calls for Global Action on Emerging Conflict Zones

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizes the urgency of global cooperation to address new conflict areas like cyber, maritime, and space, while stressing continued threats from terrorism. Speaking at the 'Summit of the Future' at the UN, he underlines the importance of balanced digital governance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted the emerging threats from cyber, maritime, and space domains, calling for global action to align with global ambition. He made these remarks at the 'Summit of the Future' held at the United Nations.

PM Modi stressed that terrorism remains a significant threat to global peace and security. Noting the evolving landscape of conflict, he called for enhanced global collaboration. “On these issues, global action must match global ambition,” emphasized Modi. According to the Wilmington Declaration, the Quad nations will boost their cybersecurity partnership to counter common threats from state-sponsored actors and cybercriminals.

In addressing the cyber threat environment, Modi noted that the Quad countries intend to enhance their joint cybersecurity measures. The Quad joint declaration—known as the Wilmington Declaration—outlined commitments to increasing collective network defense and strengthening technical capacities through greater threat information sharing and capacity building. Modi reiterated India's commitment to 'One Earth, One Family, One Future,' highlighting the need for global digital governance that respects sovereignty while advancing digital public infrastructure.

The Prime Minister also called for balanced regulation of technology, mentioning that digital public infrastructure should serve as a bridge rather than a barrier. “For global good, India is ready to share its DPI for the collective benefit,” Modi said.

The Quad leaders unequivocally condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism. The joint statement committed to international cooperation to enhance regional capabilities to combat terrorism and violent extremism, including the misuse of emerging technologies for terrorist activities.

PM Modi attended the Quad Summit at the start of his three-day visit to the United States. At the UN Summit of the Future, world leaders adopted a Pact for the Future that included a comprehensive Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations. The Pact covers a broad spectrum of themes, including peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, gender, youth, and global governance transformation.
