External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday asserted that tensions between India and China will persist as long as forward military deployments at the border remain. Addressing an event hosted by the Carnegie Endowment in the US, Jaishankar noted that China’s 2020 breach of border agreements disrupted the peace.

Discussing the bilateral relations, Jaishankar explained, "Our relationship with China has been strained over the last four years due to ongoing military tensions. Violations of border agreements in 2020 have resulted in forward deployments, causing heightened stress at the border." The standoff continues despite multiple rounds of diplomatic talks yielding no resolution.

Jaishankar also remarked on China's global manufacturing influence, attributing its dominance to decades of Western-led international collaboration. He emphasized that trade with China often operates independently of political tensions, and called for careful management of data and technology exposures. Recent diplomatic efforts have aimed to address these issues, but peace and respect for the Line of Actual Control (LAC) remain pivotal for normalizing relations.
